It has become known the world over, however, through having given a name and a home to the Royal Aircraft Establishment, or R.A.E., as it is more frequently called...There are rpobably few places in Britain that have been so suitable for aeronatuical experiments as Farnborough. The present R.A.E. now covers about eleven hundred acrews of mostly level ground.

Farnboroughs place in aviation was aptly expressed by the late Air Chief Marshall Philip Joubert when he referred to Farnborough as the cradle of British aviation.
